HI! I MISSED YOU!

Oh my goodness, where to begin. So much has happened in the last couple of weeks, and I’ve been writing four paragraph emails to everyone I know in order to compensate for the tragic — though blessedly temporary — loss of my blog. Archives will be restored as soon as I (or, hint hint, anyone with a little time on their hands who likes to be paid in food and beer) get(s) around to it.

I wish I had more time to revel in the awesomeness of being reunited with you! But because I don’t, here’s a link to an interesting debate (which I participated in,perhaps ill-advisedly) yesterday about litbloggers hating on publicists. I am firmly on both sides of this issue, so I’m fascinated. My curiosity was piqued by Maud Newton, who is mad at Crown’s catalog for, among other things (some of which she has a right to be mad about), engaging in “marketing-speak.” I love Maud Newton — I rely on her opinions and occasionally pass them off as my own. So I was surprised to find myself disagreeing with her about anything, but my feeling is — catalogs are made out of marketing-speak, and marketing is important because it helps people find out about books. And if no one knows about books, no one will buy them, and they will cease to exist. Which no one wants — least of all Maud Newton, who loves books. Right?
