Bright Lights, Big Year-End Bonus
Today I have a blog so my friend D who dates investment bankeresses doesn't have to. This is a list of things said by a recent date of his, who makes $500,000 a year (yes, half a million dollars a year) at JP Morgan:
“I don’t read.”
“I don’t know anything about anything. I know about 9/11 because I was near it when it happened, but that’s about it.”
D: “So, are you aware of what’s happening in Darfur right now?”
Her: “Dar-what? All I know is, didn’t George Clooney recently go down there?”
“I have like eight books in my house.” (she could only remember the titles of two, both alcoholic recovery memoirs)
“The only thing I read is Gawker”
(later: ) “I don’t really read Gawker.”
“[some very involved stuff about mergers and acquisitions that D doesn't remember]”
“I’m writing a book”

Comments
Dear God. Would useless people stop writing books.

I had a roommate in college who went on to become a rather successful ibanker for ML. Whenever we'd go to Barnes & Noble, she'd beeline to the magazine / planner area. She also avoided taking any english or history classes to the best of her ability, despite the fact that our alma mater's best programs were ... history and english. She graduated in three years and now has a big big house (filled with absolutely zero books, I am sure).

hi! i am new to your blog but i just started a new job and i am in the wonderful "my bosses are on vacation and i already finished all the stuff that i know how to do" place where i can just read random blogs. yours is the first one on which i've been able to focus and not keep hitting refresh on bestweekever.tv (which is not as lame as it sounds).
so thank you for helping me enjoy this brief period of time wasting/pass the interminable hours until 5p.
